See? 1-Up was just playing with the "new power-up" comment last comic. He never really intended to use Stinkoman's severed head as a weapon. He even tried to fix him!
And what's this? Another custom character? Yep. Mechanic Joe. Isn't he cute. :P Err... I mean... look! He's almost completely custom! I knew I'd need a mechanic character, but I wasn't sure what I'd use for him. I was thinking maybe he could be a bunch of robot parts flung together into a new robot. Or maybe a Dr. Light recolor. But then I decided to recolor a Poorbt's lower body and Stinkoman's hair and then draw a human character. (And you can't just recolor Stinkoman for this effect, as Stinkoman isn't very human-like.)
And then his name. I wanted a simple name for the mechanic. I original idea was Mechanic Bob, which would be a reference to the Tampo Email "death". But then I decided I didn't want a major Tampo Email reference, and that the "Bob" gag was already done to death by me. So I decided to go with Joe. But now that I think of it, I probably should have went with Mechanic Sam. Then the Legion of Sams would have a mascot to advertise everywhere... and it'd be my li'l contribution to the Legion of Sams. But now that isn't happening.
Anyway, this comic took a freakin' long time to make. Every time I have to make a custom sprite, the sprite-making process itself takes about as long as a normal comic. And this one had two: Mechanic Joe and his building. Not to mention a ton of difficult dialogue to organise and position. Meh.
Now that Stinkoman's in Mechanic Joe's possession, I think you can guess what he'll do when he wakes up.
And as I'll be doing with all custom sprites, here's the Mechanic Joe base for whoever wants to use him as is or as a base for any other human character for your own comic. You can edit the arms and face to give him lots of expressions and stuff. Same deal as Pan Pan: Don't claim him as your own, please give credit to me somewheres.
