Personal Pages
Like Wikipedia, the Knowledge Base and most other MediaWiki wikis, you have your own userpage. You may think "I can put whatever I want on my userpage, since it's mine", however this is not quite correct! There are a few basic rules to keep in mind.
- The General section of the Fanstuff Guidelines still apply.
- Your userpage is meant to be about you: it is not a collection of random images you found on the internet, and it is not a place for to play community games (feel free to do those on the forum).
- Use your subpages appropriately (subpages are pages such as User:Userpage/subpage). All the things on this apply to any subpages of your userpage, not only your userpage itself.
This is more a common sense thing than anything else, so just stick to the basic rules and you should be fine.
Personal Images
To decorate your userpage you may decide to upload a few images. This is okay! As long as you don't upload a ridiculous amount of images you'll be fine. If an image is completely unrelated to the wiki or yourself (such as "random image of a cat you found on the internet"), please use an external upload tool such as whirltools instead.
If a sysop thinks you have far too many personal images, you will be contacted and asked which ones you want deleted. If you are uncooperative, you may find all of your images deleted, and this is obviously not in anybody's best interest.
Signatures
Signatures are those things which appear when you type ~~~~ onto a page. You use them on talk pages after something you have said so people know who said it. For example, if I was commenting on a fanstuff, I might type this:
This is a pretty good fanstuff. I liked the parts with Homsar. ~~~~
To create a customized signature, edit User:Username/signature (replacing Username with your username). In your preferences you will need to put {{User:Username/signature}} in the "signature" box and tick the box below it. There a few guidelines to follow with your signature:
- It must contain your username (or an obvious abbreviation). At least half of your username (the first half) must link to your userpage.
- You may put one or two small images in your signature for decoration. The images should be no higher than the height of normal text.
- You may link to your talk page by using the second half of your username or by adding a small amount of text after your username. This additional text should not take up too much room!
- You may link to another page of your choice with extra text (once again, keeping text at a reasonable size).
- Your signature must be readable. Please do not use horribly unreadable cursive fonts or barely readable colours (such as white or yellow).
Example Signatures
Edit this page to see how they are done in wikitext.
GOOD: Username links to userpage only.
Super Sam
GOOD: Username links to both userpage and talk page.
Super Sam
GOOD: Username links to userpage, and extra text links to the talk page.
Super Samtalk
Super Sam (talk)
BAD: Same as above, but the extra text is too long.
Super Sam (talk to me)
GOOD: Username links to both userpage and talk page and with extra text linking to a fanstuff.
Super Sam my blog
GOOD: Extra text for both talk page and fanstuff (although starting to border on too long).
Super Sam talk blog
BAD: Same as above but with longer text.
Super Sam talk to me Homsar's Blog
This is also a mostly common sense rule. A sysop will edit your signature if it is too long or hard to read.
