Introduction

This is a Cheat Version of the game Stinkoman 20X6. It loads the game as normally, but adds a status bar to the bottom of the screen, which shows the character's technical position. It will also show the boss health during boss fights. This version adds a lot more keys to your arsenal than just "jump" and "attack", and lets you have heaps of cheats!

Programmed and created by Phlip.

WARNING

Cheating just because you aren't any good at the game is not cool. It spoils the game, as you lose the challenge, which is the most fun part. Finishing the game without cheating gives a sense of achievement, which cheating doesn't. Also, if you cheat, you don't get bragging rights.

However, for those of us who have finished the game (or at least part of it) messing around can be a lot of fun. Also, certain cheats in the right place can help level makers test their levels - it'd be a pain to have to beat the first 90% of the level every time you wanted to test the last screen, especially if it was a hard level.

Download

After downloading, extract this with your favorite zip program and open cheater.html in your web browser. Open notcheater.html if you don't want to cheat, you just want to play a local copy of the game.

Features

Besides the "A to jump" and "S to shoot" keys, the cheat version lets you use these commands:

  • 1 - Switch player to Stinkoman.
  • 2 - Switch player to Stinkoman with the giant fist. (only in v2 or later)
  • 3 - Switch player to 1-Up. (only in v3 or later)
  • 4 - Switch player to Ice-cold Stinkoman. (only in v5 or later)
  • 5 - Switch player to The Stinkowing. (only in v7 or later)
  • 6 - Switch player to Greggo - see #Custom Character: Greggo below. (only in v2 or later)
  • Q - Press to jump anywhere, hold to fly up, release to fall.
  • W - Hold to make CPU 1-Up fly in Level 4.
  • E - Fall through the platform you are standing on.
  • R - Make CPU 1-Up fall through the platform he's on in Level 4.
  • T - Toggle invincibility mode. You (and CPU 1-Up in level 4) can't be hurt or fall off the bottom of the screen. In v1, turning this off does not make you vulnerable again until you die or advance to the next level, however you can fall off the screen immediately.
  • Y - Give yourself full energy and 8 mans.
  • U - Warp CPU 1-Up to where you are in Level 4.
  • I - Score free items in level 3, but you'll still need to get the last item to move on. Also gets you a free shield while playing as The Stinkowing.
  • O - Win the level where you are and move on. Does not work in levels 3.1 or 3.2 in v1.
  • P - Turn on "autoscroll" mode - see #Playing as The Stinkowing below
  • Shift+P - Alternate "autoscroll" mode
  • D - Infinite shots onscreen at once. (only in v7 or later)
  • F - Toggle shot trajectory between the v1-6 mode (curve down, disappears close to you) and the v7 mode (long distance, only drops very slightly). (notably works in all versions)
  • Ctrl+R - Restart to the menu screen.
  • Numpad 1-9 - Set the scroll direction for The Stinkowing
  • Ctrl+Numpad 1-9 - Warp speed scrolling
  • Shift+1-9 (not numpad) - Change the backdrop to the one from that level. If you pick a number for a level that doesn't exist (with an earlier version of the game) you'll get a blank background.
  • Ctrl+1-9 (not numpad) - Change the background music to the one from that level. If you pick a number for a level that doesn't exist you'll get silence.
  • Ctrl+Minus - Change to the boss music (Ctrl+0 will be the level 10 music, and - is the next key after that)

Playing as The Stinkowing

When you switch to The Stinkowing by pressing 5, you'll notice that you can't move very far – just to the edge of the screen. That's because in Level 9 the screen moves for you, you have no control over it. So how do you control it in earlier levels, where the scrolling instructions don't exist?

Well, there are two ways. First, you can set the scrolling with the number pad. Eg if you want to fly right, press Num6. You must have NumLock turned on for this to work. If you think it's going too slowly, press Ctrl+Num6 to get warp speed. Press Num5 to come to a stop.

Now, this is all well and good, but it's annoying to have to reach over to the numpad every time you want to change direction. So there is another option – autoscrolling. Press P to turn this on. Now, if you fly to the right of the screen, it will scroll right. If you fly to the left of the screen it will scroll left. If you don't go all the way to the edge, it will scroll slower. This takes a bit of getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it is very good for getting around.

Pressing Shift+P will give a different scrolling mechanism that is much easier to control. Rather than flying off, when you let go of the arrows you'll stop completely. However you can't fly nearly as fast in this mode, and your shots will probably not go where you expect them to go (as they are determined by the direction the screen is scolling).

Note that I don't reccommend you turn on autoscrolling while in Level 9. When you fly over an area that changes your speed – making you fly faster or slower, or change direction – you will find it constantly changing between the speed the game wants because of the level and the speed the cheat program wants because of your position on the screen. Though once you get past that area the game will return to normal.

Custom Character: Greggo

Greggo is almost identical to Stinkoman, except he:

  • Shoots faster if you hold down S
  • Can have 5 shots on the screen at once rather than Stinkoman's 3 (if infinite shots is off)
  • Jumps higher (even more than 1-Up, but only just)
  • Runs and climbs slower
  • Invulnerable while idle (he crouches down, like the real Greggo)

Higher jumping can help with some levels, but slower running can hinder others. 3 jumps are impossible (5.2, 7.2 are impossible to complete, and in 6.2 you can't take top route at start) and several more are harder. However, several parts can be short-cutted as you can jump up to a higher platform.

Quirks

There are a few quirks with using the cheats.

  • If you choose to skip level 1.2 or 2.2, you will fight the boss in the screen that was visible when you "beat the level."
    • If you lose a life after doing this, you will battle the boss in an empty, floorless arena.
  • Nebulon and Harvax XVII are the only bosses 1-Up can deal damage to.
  • Only Stinkoman with a fist can trigger the panels in Level 4.
  • Astromund's shield doesn't work against Stinkoman.
  • Greggo's shield doesn't work against Stinkoman with the giant fist.
  • Stinkoman's large fist and 1-Up can both kill Stafulters.
  • If you're invincible and switch characters, then for a split second you won't be invincible.
  • If you play as Stinkoman with the fist while versing Tampo, when you deflect the shots, they just sit there, not hurting you. It's possible to have a screen full of blocked Tampo shots. This also happens with Harvax XVII's bullets.
  • If you switch characters while Stinkoman is laughing after defeating a boss, you'll get stuck in the boss arena, unable to continue.
    • You can fix this by pressing O again.
  • Conveyor belts don't move Stinkoman with the fist.

Troubleshooting

If the zip doesn't download properly, or your computer claims it's corrupted, try again. The zip on the server is not corrupted, and it is not a problem at my end.

If the game doesn't start:

  • Make sure the game was extracted properly – the html files, cheater.swf, stinkogame.swf and objectlibrary.swf in the main folder, cutscenes and stinkomanual in the externalSwf folder, levels in the levelData folder. If everything is all in one folder, check the settings on the program you used to unzip.
  • Make sure that Flash works for local files – some people have found that Flash is disabled on local files for security reasons. Either lower your security settings, or get Firefox (which has a much better security model than Internet Explorer).

If you still have problems and need to tell me, leave a post on the forum thread (not the talk page) and say at least:

  • Detailed description of the problem
  • Your operating system (Windows/Mac/Linux/etc) and the version
  • Your browser (IE/Firefox/Safari/Opera/Camino/etc) and the version
  • Version of Flash
  • What you tried to fix it

Without all of this, there's little I can do to help (it's like going to the doctor and saying "help, something's wrong!" – he's going to want to know more before he writes out a prescription).
