Now you're thinking with portals

There are many different types of fanstuff: you can see the full list of categories here. Each one of those pages links to a different portal. A portal is basically just a list of fanstuff within that category. This system of organization allows people to easily find fanstuff they are interested in (such as Fan Fiction). A fanstuff should be in exactly one category.

When creating a fanstuff one of the first things you need to figure out what category it should go into. You will find that some portals are very specific (such as Blogs), some are more general (such as Comics and a few are very broad (such as Art). Ideally you should pick the most specific category you can: if your fanstuff doesn't fall into any of the categories, put it in Misc. If you think your fanstuff falls into more than one category, pick the one that it is most related to.

The New Stuff portal is special because all new fanstuff are added there and then removed after two weeks. Immediately after creating your fanstuff you should put it in New Stuff: this will give people a higher chance to see it. The All Fanstuff portal is also special, because, true to its name, it contains all fanstuff. You will never need to edit this page directly, as it gets its content from all of the other portals.

Interactives

Interactives are a very special case since they have, for the most part, been outlawed due to the "Recent Changes spam" they create. Existing interactives (from before the purge) are an exception, but no new interactives can be created. There is one exception to this rule: interactives contained entirely on one page (not including things such as images and templates) are okay. You should certainly check with a sysop first though to avoid any misunderstandings and accidental deletions!

Award Systems

The only other type of fanstuff banned is award systems (fanstuff in which users give other fanstuffs awards): they were very popular pre-purge but every single one of them has been purged and no new award systems are allowed. The reason is that every man and his dog had an award system and could give awards to whoever they liked making them all completely pointless.

Official award systems are an exception (such as the old Fanstuff of the Month award) however there are no official award systems at this time.

Organizing your fanstuff

So let's say you've written your fan fiction in Notepad and want to put it on the wiki. You start by creating a page called Awesome Fan Fiction and decide to put each chapter on a different page.

Here's what you don't do:

Awesome Fan Fiction
Chapter 1
Chapter 2
Chapter 3

Here's what you should do:

Awesome Fan Fiction
Awesome Fan Fiction/Chapter 1
Awesome Fan Fiction/Chapter 2
Awesome Fan Fiction/Chapter 3

You don't have to use the exact titles of "Chapter 1", "Chapter 2", etc. but the important thing is that all pages related to your fanstuff are subpages. Here's what a subpage looks like:

Fanstuff Name/Subpage Name

So basically the name of your fanstuff followed by a single forward slash (/) and then the subpage name. You can call the subpage name whatever you want: the important thing is that your fanstuff name comes first. This is a very important rule!
