December 25
Red and green
Lights strewn upon
The houses
Of the neighborhood
Children playing
In the backyards
Making snowmen
Singing Christmas tunes
Whose lyrics
Most have forgotten
An old man
Shows up to work
At the local mall
Puts on the jolly red suit
And the jolly red hat
And the jolly red smile
He sees a line of children
All of them think
He’s the fat man
Who breaks into their homes
Eats their cookies
Drink their milk
He wonders
Why they worship such a man
The first kid
Sits on his lap
Starts crying
The mother takes him away
Apologizes
The old man
Asks for the next kid
After meeting
With Kris Kringle
Every child returns home
Builds a snowman
And sings of bells that jingle
