The Cheat sat on Strong Bad's stool, looking at the newly repaired Lappy 486. Bubs hadn't been exaggerating when he'd said that he could fix anything that needed fixing. And even if Strong Bad was never coming back, at least The Cheat and Strong Mad had something to remember him by. He wasn't worried about what would happen to the website if Strong Bad never came back. He had memories of existing before the website, and he was sure he'd go on existing even after it closed.
But the loss of one of his best friends still stung.
"Whoa!" said a voice behind him.
The Cheat turned around so quickly he fell off the chair.
"You fixed my Lappy!" said Strong Bad, who looked like he always had. The Cheat blinked a few times to make sure he wasn't hallucinating. "The Cheat, you're a genius!"
The Cheat continued to stare at him. "You have boxing gloves!" he blurted.
Strong Bad looked at his hands. "Uh... Yeah. They just kinda appeared when I changed back. Uh... I got pretty whiney back there, didn't I?"
The Cheat shrugged, then hugged Strong Bad. Strong Bad stiffened, but hugged him back. They were interrupted by a bright flash of light, and turned around to see Homestar holding a camera.
"You two are so cute," he said cheerfully. "Hey The Cheat. Strong Bad loves being touched on th—"
He was interrupted by the boxing glove that had been shoved into his stomach.
"Gimme my camera," said The Cheat.
"Oh, okay," said Homestar, giving it to him.
The Cheat threw it out of the room. "Fetch!"
Homestar chased after it, and The Cheat shifted his attention back to Strong Bad. "What happened?"
"I dunno, man," said Strong Bad. "Gron Sad came in and said Homeschool was dead, and—"
"Dude!" said The Cheat. "Strong Sad killed Homeschool?"
"Naw," said Strong Bad. "AntiHomestar was there, and he was covered in blood and stuff. Anyways, he had some thingy that could change us back to normal. I didn't wanna change back, but when I tried it I remembered something: I'm awesome! And, uh... here I am."
"What thingy?" said The Cheat, looking around. "You still have it?"
"Oh, we had to give that to AntiHomestar, in exchange for him never bothering us ever again," said Strong Bad. "He said something about using it on his whole universe."
"Meh," said The Cheat. "So... What are you gonna do now?"
"I dunno," said Strong Bad, starting up his Lappy. "I think I'll check my email. Might not end up on the site for a couple weeks, but..."
"It's the email, baby, lunch juice!"
Strong Sad could hear Strong Bad conducting his email show through the bedroom wall. He listened to it carefully, because it was better than focusing on the way Homeschool had looked when the knife had gone into his chest. He suspected that that image would stay with him for a long time. Judging by the enthusiasm with which Strong Bad was making things up, he had an amazing ability to repress or get over traumatic experiences, but Strong Sad wasn't so lucky.
Actually, it was probably time for Strong Sad to check his email as well. Those death threats wouldn't delete themselves.
